VIRTUAL PT & COACHING FOR EHLERS-DANLOS SYNDROMES, POTS & MORE

Kendel Lipe, Doctor of Phyiscal Therapy

Personalized, empathetic, and empowering exercise and lifestyle coaching, all designed to meet you where you are at in the comfort of your own environment.

Stop Surviving.

As someone who has fought for years to overcome the many challenges associated with chronic illness (see my story here), it has become my passion to enable those struggling with similar illnesses to problem solve, to learn techniques to heal themselves, and to coach them in building a routine, a mindset, and a team of supportive practitioners and allies .

 Start Thriving...

Building these foundational tools is an invaluable task that will help you to stop spending so much mental and physical energy just trying to survive, and allow you to start thriving.  Even on the hard days - because those will inevitably come with chronic illness!

I believe in a multifaceted approach - to get to the root of the issue, you can't just dig from one side at once, no matter how hard you try, or else dirt will keep pouring in from the other directions before you get down to the roots. You have to dig from all sides at once, frustrating and involved as that may be.  Moreover, speaking from my experience and that of my patients, I know 'traditional' PT, exercises, diets, and medicine have let many of us down. We are the 'exception to the rule', the 'unexpected adverse event', or just the 'hypochondriac'.

For most patients, my approach starts with the nervous system. This includes both the autonomic nervous system and our vestibular (balance) nervous systems. I have found that until we have these foundational pieces in place, the rest of it won't stick, seems impossible, or results in failure. I also offer access to the Safe and Sound Protocol, a research-based Vagus nerve resetting program that can help to fast-track results.

Meanwhile, we start building the motor control in our deep stabilizers, integrating research-based diet and hydration changes (unless you are already working with a dietician in which case we can work with that), and introducting supplements if necessary to help with collagen regulation and energy.  We will also problem-solve together to find ways to improve your alignment and posture, free up your organs and muscles using self-release techniques, and find schedules and routines that optimize your energy levels.

My Approach

Many patients experience a difference in how they feel after a few days of the exercises, and most report a signficant difference several weeks into their programs.

I am not a miracle worker, but I believe you and your body are, regardless of the labels put on you.   I am just here to facilitate you healing your own body, and to problem solve with you.

While I still treat in-person some at the clinic in Austin, over time I have come to believe you can get just as much if not more from home visits. They are consistent and sustainable regardless of life circumstances or sickness levels, and they equip you to problem solve and treat yourself in the environment you live in every day.

How does virtual care normally work?

While every situation is unique, our plan of care often involves:

  • A 60 minute evaluation and first session, after which I will design a custom home exercise program

  • Weekly 30-60 minute sessions until you get comfortable with your home routine, and to problem-solve aches, pain, energy, often 2-4 weeks. If you have a caregiver or family members who are willing to learn to do muscle and joint releases on you, this can be a welcome but no necessary adjunct to coaching, and they are welcome to attend visits with you.

  • We will slowly back off to every other week, every third week, etc. as you start to feel better and more confident in your tool kit and support system.

I do offer extended half-day and full-day manual therapy treatment sessions in-person as an option for patients seeing me virtually, if planned 1-2 months in advance. Some patients choose this if we identify persistent pains, significant misalignments, or other organ restrictions that might benefit from intensive treatment, and they don't have access to the proper kind of skilled manual therapy near them.

I offer coaching to anyone over the age of 8, in English or Spanish.

*If you can't find an opening for a consult or Evaluation within the next few weeks, please add yourself to the waitlist, and send me an email letting me know you would like to book and coudn't, and I will see if I have any flexibility. Thanks!
